Teresa M. Staal-Cowley

Teresa has seriously pursued visual art since she was 5 years old and began her first formal art lessons when she was 10 years old. She works in oils, acrylics, watercolors, pigments, pencil and inks. At times she combines her mediums thus known as mixed media. Her subject matter is mostly surrealistic with intentionally bright color combinations of the symbiotic relationship of nature and wildlife. She also is a calligrapher and has included calligraphy in her work.

Teresa has had a varied journey of studies in calligraphy, fine art, art history, advertising design, graphic design, interior design. She studied at the Southern California Regional Occupational Center (SCROC), El Camino College, UCLA, Art Institute of San Diego transferring her credits to The Evergreen State College (TESC). She has also taken many art, bookbinding and calligraphy workshops. At TESC she studied Art Therapy, Community Psychology, Sociology and created a document in Prior Learning from Experience (PLE) called “The Art of Therapy”. She graduated from TESC in June 2012 with a BA.
