Derek Stinson

I work in a traditional style and technique with acrylics or oils, building up layers and refining the picture. My subjects are usually mountain, river, or canyon landscapes from my photos taken during hikes and mountain scrambles. Painting is a way for me to capture, celebrate, and communicate the masterpieces of creation; ideally for me, painting is an act of worship of the Creator. Capturing a beautiful place in paint has a way of making that place part of me, and I hope through my paintings, that beauty and that place are appreciated by others.
